When we examine digital literacy frameworks for students, there is an ongoing struggle to move past treating applications as floating, immaterial objects in an abstract cloud. To foster true technological sustainability, we have to reconnect digital consumption with real physical spaces, local histories, and material realities. I've found that integrating place-oriented pedagogy—where students analyze how digital platforms map out or preserve actual physical geography and local historical heritage—massively deepens computational empathy.
